I personally do not see how we can have a recovery without corresponding manufacturing growth.

manufacturing has been shrinking for a number of years as a Percentage of US GDP, but you raise good
points that corporate and consumer demand has certainly not had a massive rebound, as of yet.

Japan has really been an amazing story to watch the past decade.
