The Canadian-U.S. company said it expects sales will drop by 10 to 15 per cent for its fiscal third quarter ending next March, from the current second quarter that ends Dec. 29. "The company believes that the March quarter will represent the low point in sales for the current downturn, although the recovery rate is expected initially to be modest," JDS Uniphase said in a brief statement. JDS Uniphase also reaffirmed earlier warnings that second quarter sales will be between 10 and 15 per cent below the $329 million US the company reported in the first fiscal quarter which ended in late September. "This guidance reflects the company's current sales forecast which takes into account customer inventory levels and expected changes to such inventories, the rate of new product adoption, and other factors," the company said. Based in Ottawa and San Jose, Calif., JDS Uniphase is one of the world's biggest makers of fibre-optic components used by companies such as Nortel Networks to build telecom networks for the Internet.
