I've seen pergo.....and...it looks like pergo....
They guys that did our floors also used an orbital sander and it seemed to work without endangering the surface. Can't say they were "experienced" installers, yet the floors look terrific.

this old house that we live in is about 70 years old and built like a bomb shelter. Pergo would have not fit in.

If you use oak flooring you will never be sorry that you went through the work or the expense.

And when the time comes to sell the home, you will be able to say...."see that floor, that ain't that cheap pergo stuff" That's a real tree down there buddy".
