Fisk forgot to highlight that, under attack, it is natural to swing back in pursuit of survival. And if the attack continued, he would have swung back more.

I can agree that Afgnanis have not deserved all they've experienced in the past 20 years. But too many forget the bloodshed began with the Soviets, which we helped them resist. And Al Qaida/Taliban, which we helped them kick out.

As well, there is much blame that goes to tribal commanders whose ifighting and crimes paved the way for the Taliban.

Fisk is, simply, a fool.

Fisk finds a way to blame the US even while he is being beaten bloody.... Have to admire the focus his fanatical left wing mind set grants him....

All that is wrong, all that is evil, even individual acts of barbarity towards him in a hamlet in Pakistan - all spring from the good old imperialist US (oh ya, and the zionists).

I hope it hurt like hell.

Amen, brother. I wonder, do they know they just beat up their best friend in the Western media?

Then another kid tried to grab my bag. It contained my passport, credit cards, money, diary, contacts book, mobile phone...

I have to laugh at this. Fisk, who supposedly has years of Middle East reporting experience, prances thru Afghanistan like a tourist.

Anyone who''s been there can tell you you don't keep it all in your bag.

That's what shoes and underbelts are for. Especially the cash to pay your "handlers."

Jeez, what a cadet.

OT, I don't mean to kick Fisk when he's down (well, not unduly), but any "war correspondent" worth his salt would never write such a self-demeaning piece. ("registered a moment ... when a tall boy building sandcastles in the playground had hit me on the head....")

Suddenly the story is Fisk's bloody forehead and his schoolboy terrors.

Robert Capa, Andy Rooney, Michael Herr where are you? Give this guy a clue.

"So I thought I should write about what happened to us in this fearful, silly, bloody, tiny incident. I feared other versions would produce a different narrative, of how a British journalist was "beaten up by a mob of Afghan refugees""

I 'd love to to be there when he's back at the Intercontinental in Islamabad, bellying up to the bar with Christianne Amanpour. At least she's got the b*alls to play with the big boys.
