Hard to believe...but those "artificial" barriers to entry by the Athlon XP into North America hardly allow the consumer an opportunity to obtain the superior price/performing product produced by AMD, so far, anyway...

Makes one wonder just exactly why the OEM distribution channels in North America respond inversely with Athy's success, particularly when not only has the Athlon been acclaimed year after year as "processor of the year" but its significantly less expensive than its performance equivalent competitor offering...For example, an Athlon XP 1800+ which performs at least as well (probably better) as a 2.0 MHz P4 is about half the price of the equivalent performing P4...Seems there may be some interference factor (not mentioning what that might be)impeding the playing out of normal laws of economics in the North American marketplace...

On another note, AMD has a 3 day string of 10m, 10m and 25m shares coming into today...Not very often does AMD trade 10m plius shares on 3 successive days and 45 million in aggregate across 3 days is probably close to a record if not the record...Wonder if they'll trade above 10m for a 4th successive day...

What's the opinion here as to whether the HP/CPQ merger will take place and the effect on AMD. I heard that the merger is NOT favored by the Packard family trust.

IMO, the merger is bad for HP, AMD and CPQ, and will not take place.

On another note, I heard Systemax claim that they are now the #5 PC Manufacturer in the US. They were hawking XP 1700+ systems.
