MicronPC Introduces Two New High Performance Notebooks Featuring Built-in Wireless Connectivity The TransPort® GX2 Provides Power, Features, and Biometric Security in a Desktop Replacement; The TransPort XT2 Delivers Lightweight Design and High Performance
NAMPA, Idaho--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Dec. 10, 2001-- MicronPC, a Gores Technology Group company, today announced the introduction of two new wireless-ready notebook computers -- the TransPort® GX2 and the TransPort XT2 notebook computers.
The TransPort GX2 desktop-replacement notebook has a 3-spindle design that emphasizes performance, flexibility, ease-of-use and advanced biometric security technology. The TransPort XT2 offers a powerful and highly flexible notebook in a lightweight 2-spindle form factor.
``The TransPort GX2 and TransPort XT2 notebooks combine cutting-edge mobile performance and built-in wireless connectivity in sleek but durable new industrial designs,'' said Paul Petersen, vice president of product marketing and development for MicronPC. ``These new products reflect MicronPC's strong commitment to offer our small/medium business and government customers the highest computing power available to the mobile professional today including new security features and a wide variety of notebook accessories.''
Wireless Ready
The TransPort GX2 and TransPort XT2 notebooks have built-in 802.11b wireless-ready capability, facilitating the sharing of information by users in an existing wireless network environment. Today's typical notebook user relies heavily on connecting to the Internet, accessing network resources such as printers and servers, exchanging files, swapping e-mails, and updating calendar and scheduling tasks. Organizations can provide individual users the freedom to work more conveniently from almost anywhere by implementing a wireless network solution from MicronPC that includes TransPort GX2 or TransPort XT2 notebooks, access points, and installation services.
Biometrics Security
To address the growing security concerns of many IT managers, MicronPC has integrated a multi-layered user authentication system using fingerprint recognition biometrics into the TransPort GX2. Biometrics security systems -- such as fingerprint-readers, retina-scanning lasers and similar technologies -- are much more difficult to breach than traditional password user-authentication systems. This provides increased security for an organization's intellectual property, and confidential customer and personnel information.
Backwards Compatibility
The TransPort GX2 and TransPort XT2 are compatible with docking solutions from previous TransPort XT/GX/GX+ notebook models, making upgrades to the new notebook models a cost-effective option for MicronPC customers. Additionally, the new notebooks are also compatible with TransPort XT/GX/GX+ peripherals and modular devices such as CD-ROM and DVD/CD-RW combination drives.
Sample Configurations
A high degree of flexibility and security is integrated into the design of the TransPort GX2. Available in two LCD sizes -- a 14.1-inch XGA (1024x768) TFT and a 15-inch SXGA+ (1400x1050) -- the TransPort GX2 allows for full-screen, clear resolution scaling from 640x480 and up. Unlike preceding GX/GX+ models, the TransPort GX2 will also support a second battery in the modular device bay, thus virtually doubling the system's battery life. Additionally, it includes up to 30GB hard drive capacity, ATI M6 graphics, and an IEEE 1394 FireWire port plus 2 USB ports that let you expand the capability of your notebook by connecting to a wide variety of accessories and peripheral devices. A TransPort GX2 sample configuration is provided below:
The Intel® Mobile Pentium® III-M processor 1GHz featuring Intel SpeedStep(TM) technology (1.2GHz processor available) 15.0-inch SXGA+ Active Matrix display 256MB PC133 SDRAM 20GB hard disk drive Integrated 56k v.90 modem Integrated 10/100 Ethernet Floppy diskette drive External module bay and IDE module bay cable Microsoft® Windows® XP Professional and three-year depot repair. Price: $2,249
The TransPort XT2 offers small- and medium-business and government customers an excellent alternative to a full-sized desktop replacement notebook without sacrificing flexibility or performance. This lightweight notebook features internal RJ-11 and RJ-45 jacks in addition to wireless networking to simplify connectivity in many different environments. Other technological enhancements include a 30GB hard drive option, Intel 830M integrated graphics, an IEEE 1394 FireWire port, and 2 USB ports. The TransPort XT2 also integrates innovative features that improve usability, including a touchpad with two scroll buttons for easier document navigation, and a CD audio playback module with a separate power-on button that allows the user to listen to audio CDs without having to power-on the entire notebook. A TransPort XT2 sample configuration is provided below:
Intel's Mobile Pentium III-M processor 1GHz featuring Intel SpeedStep technology (1.2GHz processor available) 14.1-inch XGA Active Matrix display 256MB PC133 SDRAM 20GB hard disk drive Integrated 56k v.90 modem Integrated 10/100 Ethernet Floppy diskette drive External module bay and IDE module bay cable Microsoft Windows XP Professional and three-year depot repair Price: $2,049 MicronPC Services
Standard services for the new TransPort GX2 and XT2 notebooks include three years of parts replacement, technical support, and Depot Repair. Customers can upgrade to Advanced Portable Exchange, a unique service which, in the event that the notebook shell needs replacing, ships a replacement shell the next business day that bears the same serial number as the original to simplify the asset tracking process.
