I'll give you the main single reason why people like Amazon: they sell a service worth $1.00 for $0.90 (if not even less).

Similarly, I seem to have no shortage of friends when I offer to buy free rounds at the bar.

If Amazon were profitable and customers still ranked it that high, then that would be something to talk about.
