El,
Compaq is working their game plan and I think they have a solid game plan. The results are starting to show. #1 in industry standard servers. Large multi year contracts with solid companies like GE. #1 in storage. All of these are current accomplishments.

The immediate focus is on the merger soap opera and not on Compaq as a company. Compaq does not need HWP to survive. IMHO Compaq has a brighter stand alone future then HWP.

HWP is borrowing the $1 billion not CPQ.

If the deal doesn't go through, CPQ should acquire LXK...LXK market cap about 7B, they are extremely profitable, and Lexmark printers are much better than HPs, IMHO...the combined company could then start eating HWPs lunch in all areas, and the Hewlett and Packard families would be the scourges of HWP...
