Intel coop marketing with no-AMD strings attached is bribery, pure and simple.

AMD might try the State Unfair Practices route in California, Texas and New York.

California is interventionist and hosts a considerable number of AMD employees, though less than Intel.

Texas has Austin and, I think a research center, and the city of Austin is pissed at Intel for making an eyesore of an unfinished project.

New York is interventionist

survivin:

INTC has no choice...The P4 is their only response to the superior price/performing Athlon XP...INTC needs to keep Athlon XP out of the North American marketplace to protect its future...

The interesting potential upshot of the $$$'s that INTC is throwing at infrastructure is that those who don't buy into the exclusive Athlon XP clause are likely to fare much better with the margins that are obtained by selling Athlons...We've already seen a firming in Athlon pricing vis a vis P4 and by "locking out" vendors from selling Athlons in North America, those who do may just end up with increased demand from the informed consumers in the NA market...Systemax, now no. 5 may just be a prime example of what any Athlon lock out strategy might reap for those who choose not to play INTC's game...

>This article suggests intel plans on giving even more marketing $$ to the white box/enterprise channels, but of course, access requires no amd machines in a qualifying lineup. Is it any wonder oems choose to bypass athlons?

Did I miss that? Where does it say that it requires that?

I'm actually in the middle of writing a paper on AMD; such info may be helpful.
