Knowledge is not a problem for HAL. The problem is that they purchased liability for a company that did have asbestos exposure. Therefore, they are paying the price. And that is why the judgments will be upheld. I agree it may be unjust, but that is reality.

I've seen this movie. HAL has become a big pool of funds for the Plaintiff lawyers. It might take a few years, but the end looks grim.

The only protection would come from federal legislation. But that will never happen unless the Repubs have very solid control of both the House and Senate.
