ATLANTA (Reuters) - Coca-Cola Co. (NYSE:KO - news) said on Monday it had purchased technology from International Business Machines Corp. (NYSE:IBM - news) that will make the soft drink leader one of the first companies to move its entire advertising and brand history to an online digital media archive.

Coca-Cola, the world's No. 1 soft drink company, said the custom-designed technology would grant its employees around the world access to thousands of graphical images, television ads and text documents, improving coordination on such things as marketing and advertising campaigns.

``While preservation and retrieval of that material is important, we also wanted to create a robust system that would enable our employees in more than 200 countries to efficiently access our historical data and work collaboratively, all from their desktops,'' said Philip Mooney, director of Coke's corporate archives.

Atlanta-based Coca-Cola declined to say how much it had paid for the technology, which includes IBM's Content Manager, Lotus Notes and Lotus Domino. IBM said its Global Services division began working with Coca-Cola on the project about a year ago.

Coca-Cola's digital archives contain about 9,000 graphical images, 7,000 text documents and 25,000 corporate videos and television ads, including the famous 1970s-era ``Coca-Cola Hilltop'' commercial that featured the ``I'd like to Buy the World a Coke'' jingle.

Shares of Coca-Cola fell 97 cents to close at $45.63 on the New York Stock Exchange (news - web sites). IBM dropped 74 cents to $119.66 a share on the NYSE.
