Wrong again. The greatest Ponzi scheme in human history, Social Security, makes corporations think that pensions are less necessary. It also makes unions steal from their plans, not that wouldn't do that anyway...

Dear TigerPaw: Being a retired CPA I know something about this. What REALLY happened is a number of years ago the Govt made the accounting and recordkeeping for retirement plans (especially defined benefit) so CUMBERSOME most smaller Corporations just could AFFORD the ADMINISTRATIVE COSTS of the plans. So, instead they made contributions to the employees IRA or set up a 401K plan and made matching contributions to it. jdn
