Maui,

FYI : Northwood size : 127 sq. mm.

That's about halfway between the 140 sq. mm.
people were assuming for quite a while and the 116 sq. mm.
that AMD was throwing around in their last CC. So Northwood is a square (11.27 x 11.27 mm). Hope it squares the stock price.

Tony

maui,

FYI : Northwood size : 127 sq. mm.

That's a very competitive size.

What do you make of the chart that has the range of operation from 0.7V to 1.4, with the highest clock rate of 2.5 GHz at 1.4V.

Didn't I see somewhere that Intel is promising 2.5 or 2.6 GHz by the end of 2002, but hoping for 3 GHz?

Joe

Dude - Re: "Northwood size : 127 sq. mm. "

That sounds a little small to me.

However, IF it is TRUE, AMD is in DEEP SHIT !!!

That 127 sq. mm. puts Intel's Pentium 4 (0.13 micron) - with 5112K L2 cache - SMALLER THAN AMD's AThWIper eXPloder on 0.18 micron process - 129 sq. mm. - with only 256K L2 cache (+128 K L1 cache).

Intel will be kicking AMD's BUTT up and down the profit scale - until AMD can get their 0.13 micron ThoroughlyDead CPU out - and that doesn't appear to be any time soon.

AMD - gotta catch up to Intel in 0.13 micron processing !!
