well, she wanted to have it look like it did when the house was built in the late 30s ....
I know what you mean bout "ugly", but the look IS different ..... ggggg

I've used all kinds of wood flooring ...
and believe it or not there are LOTS of grades ....

one of my favs is/was "tavern grade" .... I really love the name .... gggggg

and I much prefer the laminated veneer to the thicker solid board, personally ....
as I posted to sandintoes, the polyvinyl finish the better manufacturers are currently using is so strong that the refinish deal is a nearly a thing of the past .....

I do own, and will be redoing early spring, a house that my uncle and aunt built in 1940 .....
downstairs is all hardwood and I've had done and done myself a couple of sand/refinsh jobs in the past thirty years .....
but
the "new" polymer finish stuff is so good and hard that it has held up well and impresses me continually
