Re: Virgin births

But getting back to Jesus Christ, the important aspect is that he was born of a virgin birth....

I don't see how that's particularly relevant. It seems to me the focus on "virginity" and faith is motivated by two concerns. First, the cultural question of establishing paternity, and second a reflection of a sense of shame surrounding sexuality which pervades many religious traditions. The equation "sex = sin" is hardwired in many traditions and this has been the root cause of much pathology. St. Paul rightly admonishes that the question of the resurrection is central to Christian faith, not the question of the virgin birth or many other pieties which have attached themselves to the story of Jesus.

"All the great teachers throughout history are representatives of the same ONE truth from the same ONE Lord God in Heaven"

A related comment from Adi Da from THE GOSPEL OF KRISHNA AND JESUS"

Just so, we should not be righteously angered or even dismayed to discover that the same Truth, Doctrine, and Offering has been Communicated by two entirely different Teachers, or Spiritual Masters, in many times and places in this world--and happily, such Masters will always be a feature of human history. When such a Master speaks, it is not merely the man that speaks and says: I am God. It is the Realization of the man that speaks. And that Realization has not only been the Great Discovery and Destiny of a few. It has, since ancient times, been declared to be the Truth and Condition to be Realized equally by all--if they will enter into the Ecstasy of the Way of Divine Communion.

There is no true basis for Christian sectarianism or Hindu sectarianism. Indeed, all the "great religions" of the world are centered in the same Revelation. It is time we all awakened from our provincial religous presumptions and accepted all human cultures as our heritage. It is time we ceased to struggle to dominate one another with our secarian "Revelations" and actually began to practice the right, appropriate, responsible, and Life-positive discipline of action in the Ecstatic Way, Truth, and Life (or Spirit) of God-Communion, which is the only means of the Salvation, Liberation, or Happiness of Man.

Is this relatively close to your point of view, Frederick?

Namaste!

Jim

Fred,
Try this one on. What if God is not some entity that creates, distributes, or otherwise manages the energy of which everything in the universe is made. What if God is actually energy itself? Does energy have its own inteligence, whether we understand it or not? We know electrical energy in batteries has "memory". Folks familiar with weight lifting and strength conditioning are aware of the "memory" in muscle tissue or the energy that forms that tissue and use a process called "carbo loading" to increase the amount of carbohydrates or energy that can be stored to enhance strength and endurance. Does the fact that "brainless" forms of life evolve to insure their survival imply that the energy that forms them has intelligence?
We know a couple laws pertaining to energy. From electrical energy we know that it has to flow freely in a complete circuit. We know from magnetic energy that opposites attract. What happens if we apply just these two laws to our human existence? Do we utilize different types of energy? Sexual energy, emotional energy, mental energy, physical energy, etc. The notion of different energy and energy centers of the body is pretty constant in many cultures whether they are called the chakras, the tree of life centers, the AUW centers or the Dantien to name a few. What is Sin? If we look at the 7 deadly sins in relation to, say, the 7 chakras, its hard not to see a relationship. Is lust simply the retention or repression of sexual energy due to the notion that sex is "bad', or a waste or energy that should be devoted to a "higher purpose". (I guess this assumes we can't think, sing a song, and have sex all in the same day without killing ourself). Is envy the retention of the energy of expression due to the belief that "I wish I could sing and dance like Fred Astair but I can't and I'd only embarrass myself so I won't try". Is pride the retention of mental energy,"My idea, My achievement." In other words, is sin simply the failure to let energy flow through us freely? Is the "self" the entity that creates the beliefs that prevents this energy flow. We all know the power of positive thinking, but is there a difference between a "positive person" and a person who thinks postively, acts positively, and achieves positive results but doesn't retain any of that positive energy? Is this the difference between pride and humility?
I'd be interested in yours and others thoughts along these lines.
