jc,

The question is: Will all Hammers have high bandwidth, or will this just be a Sledge advantage? Despite expectations, I'd be annoyed if Claw only had a 2.70GB/s connection to memory.

That's a good question, how the actual production chips will be implemented regarding the 64bit / 128bit memory interface. I would be annoyed if ClawHammer is limited to 64bit, but on the other hand, it would make the platform more expensive if 128bit was the requirement.

It would be nice if the chips had 128 bit interface, but the 2nd 64 bit were optional.

Where will the competition be? DDR based 845 is single channel, with no more bandwidth than Socket A. Are any dual channel chipsets planned for P4? THe problem of course will be the dual channel RDRAM with, what is it, 4.3 GB/s bandwidth. Nobody will actually buy these, but it will be used in all of the reviews.

Another thing on the bandwidth, it may turn out that Hammer actually beat P4 at its strength, because in apps that require high bandwidth, and are multithreaded, 2 way Hammer will double the bandwidth.
