Police Beat

Mistaken Equipment

Deputies from the Lamar County Sheriff's Office arrested two men Saturday night in connection with the theft of a John Deere riding lawn mover after a call for help from the suspects.

According to investigators, a resident was pulling onto a county road and noticed a pickup loaded with a riding lawn mower. Believing the mower to be his, the resident turned and gave chase.

The suspects ditched the lawn mower, but the victim eventually caught and detained them on Farm Road 2122, one mile north of Farm Road 137. The suspects called the sheriff's office and asked for an officer because they were being held at gunpoint.

Two men were arrested for the theft of a mower from McDonald's Cemetery. A third possible suspect fled on foot.
