Hasn't CPQ has as much as admitted, as part of this mating dance, that their variety of Unix is weaker than HP's? So why would customers want it rather than HP-UX if the deal falls through?

JMHO.

>>>Please tell me one deal that CPQ has done that has succeeded...<<<

I'm searching the archives...my mainframe should have the answer prior to the vote....:)

Well they did get a couple of billion dollar orders since the HWP offer was announced. (one to the post office).

Capellas' plan is to keep positioning the company as a single source provider of corporate needs.

This board and others keep saying that the computer business is a commodity business and that CPQ and HWP should exit it. Right at the very bottom of the cycle all the talking heads are offerring this great free advice. But profits in the computer business are volume related. On any given model 800K units equals a loss, 1 million units is break even and 1.4 million units equals high profitability.(not a whole lot different than cars...volume is everything)

With Capellas's remarks today that he "absolutely" in favor of the deal. The analysts will start to put together how this will work out.

I want to see HWP and CPQ do well. As one or two companies. Proving the nay sayers wrong it what's it all about. Concensus viewpoints are the short road to poverty....

Best to all of you..( I had best scan some HWP options or return to the CPQ and AMAT board, from where I came.)
