Please. Before you post something get both sides of the story straight. Read the Qu'ran. That is a violent book if ever I've read one. In addition, the Qu'ran makes it clear the Jews are Islam's sworn enemies. It goes back to Isaac and Ishmael. The Jews and Christians believe Isaac is God's chosen line and Islam believes that Ishmael is God's chosen line. The religions are fundamentally opposed and fanatics take that as their queue to turn to murder. I think our leaders are only being diplomatic when they say that Islam is a peaceful religion that was hijacked by the terrorists. Islam is not a peaceful religion. It's a perversion. An article in the Onion said it facetiously, but was dead on: God comments on Sept 11th, "What about THOU SHALT NOT KILL do you humans not understand?" In the Qu'ran, it advocates the murder of Christians (infidels) who try to convert Islamic people. It also advocates forced and violent conversion of non-Islamic people to Islam. I won't even mention the abominable treatment of women that it espouses. The Qu'ran makes it very clear that the goal of Islam is nothing short of a new world order remade in the image of Islam along with all it's harsh and primitive teachings. Is that who you are defending? Osama and the Taliban were actually pretty faithful to Islam's dictates. Do you respect them for being true to their faith. The fact that they aren't fanatics, but actually were being true to their faith frightens me more than the terrorists themselves, because Osama and the Taliban are not the root cause of this mess. Islam itself is the root cause. I wonder what would have happened if Hitler had made the Nazi party a religion instead. Would Americans have made such a tremendous effort to understand and to be tolerant of Nazism? Would we have protected Nazis' rights to their religion despite them committing horrible atrocities like eliminating the Jews wherever they could find them? Let's not be naive. Sometimes evil is so clear that you need only know one thing about it, and it's that you have to do everything in your power to stop it. As for Israel, Thomas, why don't you try living surrounded by your worst enemies for 50 years? See how paranoid and aggressive that makes you as you watch your sons and daughters get blown to bits by suicide bombers. The Palestinians don't want a Palestinian state; they want the wholesale removal of the Jews from the Middle East and they want Jerusalem as their capital. Still don't believe me? The Jews believe that when Elijah and the Messiah come they will come through the Golden gate in a certain part of Jerusalem. The Jews also believe that graveyards are unholy sites and therefore, their Rabbis don't venture into them so they won't become unclean. The Arabs built a graveyard right next to that Golden gate where Elijah is supposed to come. Wouldn't that make you mad if you were a Jew? Well, I can top that. Perhaps the most sacred area for the Jews is the site where the temple was built for God and then was destroyed, rebuilt, and destroyed again. The Arabs know this, so they built the Dome of the Rock right on top of that spot to prevent the Jews from rebuilding the temple on that sacred spot. That's unbelievable profanity and sacrilege to Jews. To the Arabs, anything's fair game to incite and offend the Israeli's. Unfortunately for the Arabs, they are picking on a 900 pound gorilla. Why don't you take a dart gun and shoot it at a gorilla and see what happens to you? Does that give you the picture? Idealism is a toy for the ignorant and naive. The acid test is when it happens to you. What will you do then? I don't know many people who would turn the other cheek when they see their 3 year old daughter murdered in cold blood. You can't reason with people who want nothing short of the extinction of your race.
