Sam - to answer your followups on the Storageworld show

1) The person that told me about BRCD was "finally SCHEDULED to ship 4 customers the 12000 this week for evaluation". I took this as a pre-release, and not production units, since two of the customers are manufacturers of storage subsystems.

They would certainly need at least a month or so to evaluate the hardware.

I didn't press for the names of the other two. You'll have to be happy with just this info.

2. The low-cost NAS boxes (i.e. quantum) is a commodity. However, those vendors all have a more feature-rich higher-end box which may compete with NetApp at NetApp's low low end.

3. As a proud Texan, and of course a Republican, I am very much behind the economic bill. I am confident it will pass, but really have no idea what components will get stripped out by the Dems because they just can't seem to get it through their thick skulls that lower taxes stimulate the economy and create jobs, and is much better then raising taxes to hand checks to people that don't have jobs. This part of the bill will benefit most of the tech stocks, and certainly all of the storage manufacturers. So, I recommend that if any of you are from districts which have democratic representation, that you contact your congressperson/senator and have them vote for the plan, with this provision.

(off soapbox now).
