I can see merit in the information you are providing, if it is correct. However, if the attorney is an unwitting messenger, any message would have to be in some coded form. Hence, how would law enforcement know whether there was any actual "message" conveyed to accomplices at all?

Also, the key variable in the selective use of this approach is the working definition of what is a terrorist. For example, does Ashcroft propose to listen in on the conversations between the suspect recently arrested for sending bogus anthrax letters to abortion clinics and his attorney? Is a terrorist someone who has been actively planning a violent act? Or someone who knows someone allegeldly planning a violent act? Or someone who holds similar political views as someone who knows someone who may have been planning a violent act? I'm sure you get my point. If the potential for abuse is there, I have virtually no confidence that it will not be exploited sooner or later.
