Paul, Re: "They reduced the WSPW from 6,000 to 5,000 after pouring in a few hundred million to increase the size of this MegaFlop by 25% !!"

I think this shows just how bogus the original wafer start claims were. Take a look at this link.

amd.com

Here, AMD is claiming that Fab25 has 120,000 sq ft of clean room space in order to provide 5,000 wspw, and Fab30 has 90,000 sq ft of clean room space in order to provide 6,000 wspw. It doesn't take a mathematician to realize that something here doesn't add up. Being 25% smaller than AMD's Austin fab, the Dresden fab should only have had capacity for 3750 wspw. It looks like AMD's 25% "expansion" has only been able to bring Dresden up to the same capacity of their Austin fab. I don't think it ever could have produced 6,000 wspw. Some AMD PR guy must have goofed royally on Dresden's original wafer start numbers.

Paul - Re:""The fab by the end of this month will be running at full capacity at 5,000 8-inch wafer starts a week."

Just think, Bowhard Dan says that AMD is getting 200 good die per wafer. That is 13 million AthWipes a quarter.

Woops, it looks like that yield is a little off Dan.
