here is a link that shows the most important trends in SA trade. note, overall, as a percentage of GDP, agriculture is about 5%, industrial production 30% and services about 65%.
the link shows that the export sector is of growing importance to the economy, and a large part of SA's exports (over 50%) is accounted for by minerals:

as the recent expansion plans by the platinum group metals producers show, a thriving resources sector contributes greatly to the overall economy, as it is very labor intensive and unemployment is the most pressing economic problem.
