Shortages of P4 is starting to get very puzzling. It just makes no sense. Intel should have more that enough capacity to meet any demand.

Meeting demand is not necessarily the best way to maximise profits. IMO the "shortage" is a result of Intel trying to
- halt the decline in ASPs
- using guarantees of supply during the "shortage" to keep their lapdog OEMs loyal during this critical period.

If there was a true shortage then I think we would see prices firming up more than they are. Could be that there is a plentiful supply, but only the in-crowd can tap into it.

Reminds you of the "floodgates" that were going to open 'any day now' when the 0.18 coppermine was originally released.

Turns out the (bo)notched gates was something that was not keeping yields exactly where they should have been.

But remember:

"Demand is strong; yields are fine!".
