Newton's lawyer in the Louisiana case, Howard Shapiro, said Wednesday night he hadn't been contacted by Newton and didn't know the circumstances surrounding the latest charges.

"I don't know why I'm not hearing from him," Shapiro said. "I've represented him in everything he's ever been involved in before. I have no reason not to believe I'm not representing him now."


When your lawyer says that, you've been gettin' in way too much trouble.

The one good thing to say about Mr. Newton is that he will probably be able to adequately defend himself in prison.
