A jury of six experts examined 30 CMS case studies from a number of solution providers and well-known content management users. The project submitted by Babcock Borsig AG was an intranet portal set up by the company's integration partner dbc digital business creators GmbH (formerly Adcore AB) using divine Participant Server, which divine recently acquired through its merger with Eprise Corp. The portal provides the technological infrastructure for a corporate editing and publication network. "This award reinforces the value that divine Participant Server is providing to our European customers," said Franz Scheinbenbogen, divine's managing director in Germany. "divine's solutions are perfectly suited for large-scale enterprises such as Babcock, which require open architecture, scalability and the ability to empower business users to manage content in their native language." Babcock Borsig AG's goal for the project was to develop a global intranet, the Babcock Borsig Intelligence Portal, to be used as a communication and information system by all of its employees. A driving factor for developing the portal was the huge expansion in the volume of information throughout the group and an increasing need to find a solution for managing distributed authoring responsibilities. The IT managers of the company recognized early on that a powerful content management solution would be crucial to the successful implementation of this ambitious project. Working with its integration partner, dbc, the company evaluated nearly 50 solutions before selecting divine Participant Server. A number of organizational and technical challenges had to be overcome to enable rapid implementation of this large-scale project, which was achieved in less than six months. Today, the portal provides the technological infrastructure for a group-wide editing and publication network and has significantly increased the efficiency of day-to-day procedures, resulting in reduced operating costs. "The powerful editing environment, content management capability and open architecture for database integration were deciding factors compared with the alternative products, and the high degree of functionality and outstanding price-performance ratio finally tipped the balance in favor of divine," said Gunter Peter, CIO of Babcock Borsig Corporate Systems. "A thorough approach to project design, planning and implementation taking account of all the critical success factors was the key to success for us and our partners.
