do you know Ken Nishikiori (tenor)?

Never heard of him.

he did a performance of "Bohemian Rhapsody" on a pop bandshow last night on Japanese TV, w/about 10 backup vocalists.

Bohemian Rhapsody? That explains why I've never heard of him.

said he became an opera singer as he was impressed by F. Mercury as a youngster.

I did the same because I was impressed with Tom Jones and Gene Simmons of Kiss. ;-)

sounded good to me, but the accent was a bit off (and noticeable). i often wonder how opera singers get around the accent problem.

You try not to sing Italian opera in Italy, French opera in France or German opera in the countries that speak it. All the while, you walk around using the biggest Texas twang that you possibly can muster.
