FWIW: Got another relative's small account to manage. I made the following moves:

Bought AMAT @ $42.209, sold July $50 call @$4.60

Bought NVLS @ $42.629, sold June $50 call @$5.10

Bought XLNX @ $40.088, sold June $50 call @ $4.40

Bought ALTR @ $23.745, sold June $30 call @ $2.65

Bought LLTC @ $42.189, sold May $50 call @ $3.90

All Market Orders. First time option trades. Bought and sold calls one company at a time.

RE: "When you hear news do you usually assume that it is actionable (from a trading standpoint) or that the market is very efficient and has probably already discounted it?"

Generally speaking, I'd say that news is more actionable than not. The market often discounts news, but typically not 100% of it.
