I like seeing AD's trades as it represents another spectrum of the market which we trade with. I got into cc's in a big way from watching others so watching AD is an education.

ST - Trading FWIW, I ended the day holding no AMAT positions long or short. Early in the day I closed out the 5000 share short play I had been holding, and followed up with a flurry of minimally productive trades. I would have been much better off simply holding my original dark-side play, but I'm very happy to end the trading with a $14,630 gain over yesterday's close.

Current position: None

Todays AMAT trades:

Covered 2000 shares at $42.45, shorted at $40.92 LOSS -$3060
Covered 3000 shares at $42.60, shorted at $40.92 LOSS -$5040
Covered 2000 shares at $42.55, shorted at $42.75 GAIN +$400
Sold 2000 shares at $42.25, long at $42.00 GAIN +$500
Covered 2000 shares at $42.15, shorted at $42.15 BREAKEVEN
Covered 2000 shares at $42.47, shorted at $42.47 BREAKEVEN
Covered 3000 shares at $42.20, shorted at $42.70 GAIN +$1500
Sold 2000 shares at $41.90, long at $41.94 LOSS -$80
Sold 2000 shares at $41.78, long at $41.50 GAIN +$560
Sold 2000 shares at $41.35, long at $41.35 BREAKEVEN
Covered 2000 shares at $41.54, shorted at $41.59 GAIN +$100

Yesterday's status looked like this:

MTD booked gain: +$675
MTD paper loss on current play: -$19,750
MTD status: -$19,075

YTD booked gain: +$131,150
YTD status: +$111,400

With all trades booked, here's my current status:

MTD status: -$4,445

YTD status: +$126,030

Sam,

I guess I might be a too quick study. I followed AD for a while and conclude:

1. He has a caste iron stomach;

2. He is smart enough to trade AMAT, a stable business leader with volatility;

3. He gets to choose entry and exit and adding and subtracting to his position;

4. He makes money even when he doesn't know which direction the market is going;

5. One could probably model a rule based system that has a positive expectation but will not do as well as AD;

6. There are "easier" ways to make money.
