I'll bite.

Hi Hugh:

Firstly, I've noticed SI in general - is pretty dead these days. I guess the market has depressed a lot of folks.

On to NHC . . .
In order to have a balanced (IMO) portfolio while exploring the inevitable (again IMO) growth of the broadband(or communication) networks, I purchased some shares in NHC.

The perceive "balance" of investing in the exchange carrier area of the tech sector came from a "what if" type of thought. I saw broadband cable networks adding new subs at an exponential rate. (@HOME - RIP) I hoped that broadband fixed wireless would take off in order to quickly hook up those in hard to reach areas. I even looked into some fibreoptic and satellite plays.

To quote a favorite poster on other threads where I lurk . . . "DSL is dead"

I had a hard time envisioning the monolithic telcos adapting in any timely manner to the growing need for broadband.
But, it seemed to me that in they wouldn't give up without a fight. Thus, without a lot of innovation, they'll provide the bare minimum to compete with other broadband offerings so as not to loose their valuable subscribers.

Enter NHC.

I thought that NHC's products would fill the need of the telcos to keep up with other broadband offerings. It appears though, that "keep up" is not the only game they play. Huge political clout helped keep alternates down while they slowly upgrade their systems. Too slowly for NHC. Why play catch up or god forbid innovate when you can slow down everyone else.

Sorry for the rant.

Take it easy,

Ger

While there may be no short position left in NHC, there is virtually no interest in the stock either. The dollar volume on a daily basis is pocket change. NHC has been long on promises and even longer on delivering on them. While I realize that they are not in control of the situation, it is easy to see why it creates a fertile breeding ground for skepticism. If we don't get at least some small volume POs in the first quarter we could be under pressure as investors that have been waiting what seems like forever lose faith.
