Obviously, you don't care that our European allies don't like it and that Colin Powell recommended against trashing the treaty as well. If you act unilaterally and like a bully enough times you are well a Bully. Is that what you want the US to become?

The most effective deterent to a missle attack by another state is massive retaliation. That means the only threat we need an active defense for is rogue terrorist groups and maybe the mafia with ballistic missles. These are threats better addressed through treaties and police activity.
