Mani - You wrote My claim was that AMD has said they have gained market share through the downturn. Your claim was that Intel is gaining market share. My claim was based on statements of AMD. What was your claim based on?

First, let's examine AMD's Flash sales and Intel's Flash sales from Q2 to Q3.

.............Q2 2001............Q3 2003
AMD.......... $316...............$210
Intel......... $510 .............$509

The Intel data is from their Wireless group which is primarily Flash.
As you can see, AMD's flash sales collapsed by 33% - Q2 to Q3 - whereas Intel's flash revenue remained essentially flat - at about 242% of AMD'sflash revenue (I don't know what Fujitsu's sales were but you only asked about AMD).
Secondly, let's look at what AMD recently stated about their flash business for Q4:

Message 16763206

"Flash - No better than flat with the previous quarter - $210 million. we'll offer no more detail than that."

Intel had the following to say about flash:

jc-news.com

"Revenues for the wireless group, comprised mostly of Flash, were approximately flat with the second quarter at $509 million dollars.
All I will say about that is that as Paul (otellini) said, revenues were up ever so slightly and AMD said theirs were down $100 million dollars so I guess that means that we took share"

How's that, Mani?
Now it's your turn.
Monica

My claim was that AMD has said they have gained market share through the downturn. Your claim was that Intel is gaining market share.

Since the combine flash market share of AMD and Intel (or even FASL and Intel) is not 100% its possible that both companies have been gaining market share from the smaller players.
