What don't you understand about:

jc-news.com

"Revenues for the wireless group, comprised mostly of Flash, were approximately flat with the second quarter at $509 million dollars.

What I don't understand is how much flash memory AMD sold in the two quarters in question. As Mani said (and you just confirmed) Intel does not break out flash. I don't know what percentage "mostly" equals. I don't know how well the non-flash part of the wireless group has done. It could be mostly flash in both quarters but be 97% in the 1st and 67% in the second. The data is somewhat useful but it doesn't really tell us how Intel flash has done. Also it would really be useful if we had more quarters of Intel flash info but apparently that information is completly unavailable.

Monica re <<It's valid Mani - you know it - and you certainly have no evidence to support your claim of AMD gaining market share in flash - now, do you, Mani?>>

OK, take it easy. You make a valid point that Intel's wireless group in the last quarter has done better than AMD's flash. Fine!

Even if that can show Intel's flash is doing better than AMD's, it does not mean AMD is losing market share in flash. Considering how much flash prices have continued to deteriorate, more so for AMD since contract prices have ended, it is possible that both AMD and Intel have gained market share. Perhaps Intel has gained more market share than AMD.

In the last CC AMD said they have gained flash market share in this downturn and considering that some flash providers are down much more than AMD that is a plausible statement.

Flash market has more players than CPU, Unlike the CPU market, Intel's gain does not necessarily come at AMD's expense or vise versa.
