As far as I can gather, most of the top people associated with Carlyle speak, as they ordinarily would, for roughly the fees they would ordinarily command, except that they are generally paid with an equity stake in the portfolio. In the course of this, they somehow promote Carlyle as an investment group. Carlyle has a diversified portfolio, including everything from Dr. Pepper to defense contractors, and a rate of return that, in the last bull market, was robust but not spectacular (there were mutual funds making nearly 50 %, and S&P no- loads were doing better than 25%.) Somehow we are supposed to infer something nefarious........
