the root was weak leadership in U.S. and Israel. Now, Saudis, Palestinians, Egyptians, Pakistanis are dealing with W and Sharon- a real partnership for peace. W was pissed at how arafat acted after he sent Zinni to Mideast. previously, U.S. presidents took unbelievable sh*t from Assad of Syria and kept sending people to kiss his ass. it may be arabs and muslims prefer life to death. bin laden, who may know the muslim and arab mind, says they are like afghanis- they like to be on the winning side- go with a strong horse.

Maybe so, but it is people in desperate straights that are easily lead to do extreme things. But I would agree that Bin Laden's organization is full of people who in other circumstances might have been part of high society. However, they wouldn't be dangerous if it weren't for their ability to influence the masses into suicide bombings and other extreme acts. As far as people like John Lindh or Walker or whatever his name is, there are always the exceptions to every society. By and large, if a society has the means to support itself, extremism is a rarety or just exercised by criminals. In a poverty stricken society extremism is much more prevalent, because cornered or desperate people do desperate things.
