Good point. There are a lot of similarities here. Intel supporters are breathless over the possibilities of Itanium, AMD ones over the Hammer. I personally feel that Itanium has a lot of potential and actual pitfalls. Hammers are more conservative, and as a result, are more likely to be successful. The HT channels hold a lot of promise, but they also might not work well. Itanium really depends on a truly brilliant compiler to unlock it's power, and history has been against that. But who knows? They might be able to solve that particular problem before this attempt at VLIW dies...
