Congratulations to the SanDisk Retail Sales Division.

In my now ritualistic Saturday morning retail check at BestBuy today I noticed
the display pegs brimming with SanDisk 64MB & 128MB cards. These inventories
had been depleted at many of our local retailers. In the week or so since I last
visited I could not help but notice 3 entire pegs of 32MB CompactFlash selling out!
These were priced at $29.99 a piece and they are now totally sold out. I estimated
at least 12 cards per peg. I then realized that several cameras are selling with the
promise of a free SanDisk 32MB card. This may be the reason they are missing.

Today PNY cards were featured in a sales pitch by BestBuy. The sale was a 128MB PNY CF
for $59.99 plus a free CF reader by PNY. These were all sold out, much like the recent
$39.99 promotion of the SanDisk 64MB CF cards. PNY is still well represented at the
display, unfortunately. Lexar has two or three pegs that are well out of the usual visual
field of most shoppers.

In the 15 minutes I was there a total of 6 SanDisk cards and card readers sold.
One guy bought a 128MB ($89.99) and 64MB ($49.99) card, another bought a 64MB CF card
and a USB card reader, while a third bought a digital camera, a 128MB CF card and a USB
card reader ($29.99). It was good to see that kind of sales in such a short
time period. There was also a lot of traffic around the digital camera display
and there is a wide choice of products over a fairly broad price range.

I wish PNY were out of the picture in our local stores. I imagine BestBuy is either
using them to leverage pricing with the SanDisk folks or BestBuy agrees to buy a portion
of their CF and SM cards in order to guarantee DRAM supply for computer upgrades. PNY must
have some kind of deal arranged. For example, SimpleTechnology is now nowhere
to be found and Lexar comprises an ever shrinking percentage of the assortment.

BTW, they are building the BestBuy corporate headquarters only a few miles from our home.
