POTENTIAL arms race it MAY start are outweighed imo by the potential dangers of doing nothing. Your point is right back at the excluded middle. There is no reason to think that only two alternatives exist. There are many things the U.S. could spend the money on that would likely provide more security than star wars. Star Wars is both very expensive and protects against only one type of threat and is unlikely to protect well against the intended threat. TP
