Pakistani authorities said Friday they had detained more than 340 people, including 40 suspected Arab al-Qaeda fighters, who had fought with the Taliban in Afghanistan.
About 300 Pakistanis have been detained over the past three weeks as they tried to return back across the border from Afghanistan following the defeat of the Taliban, interior ministry officials said.

Another 40 suspected members of Osama bin Laden's al-Qaeda network have also been detained, officials said.
The radical Muslim tribal group, Tehrik Nifaz Sharia-e-Mohammadi (TNSM), took several thousand fighters to Afghanistan after US air strikes started in response to the September 11 attacks on New York and Washington.
