Being Hunkie, Chippewa and Cherokee has to make you something though. If there isn't a group for your support yet, why don't we start one:)

LOL----calling your Grandfather a "Hunkie", brought back some funny memories of my childhood.

In the neighborhood where I grew up, my Mom's best friend, Yvonne, was the lady whose house was directly behind ours. As not many people had "privacy" fences then, it was just one big back yard, separated by an alley, between houses.

Well, my brother and I had taken to calling each other "Hunkie", as a derogatory name, as we had overheard this neighbor say it several times, and we thought it was a cool word. We had no idea what it meant. My Mom was beside herself not knowing why in the world we would call each other that, and was talking one day to Yvonne about it. When Mom told her she did not know what she was going to do with us and Yvonne found out why, she howled with laughter and explained to Mom that Charlie, her husband, was of Hungarian descent and she always called him "Hunkie". Mom was pretty redfaced about it.

Of course, once my brother and I found out that no one minded that we called each other, and other kids, a "Hunkie", we no longer had a use for the word! ha ha.

Dan

PS: I forgot to mention that racism played no part in it, as we had no idea what being PC was then. We were too busy killing Roman soldiers with our swords of wood, and using our homemade bazookas to shoot enemy planes out of the air , and sliding down the hill on trashcan lids when it iced over.

What you term "xenophobia" didn't start with this recession. It started with an attack on New York City on September 11.
