FedEx Now on Nextel Online Wireless Portal; Subscribers Have Easy Access to FedEx Tracking, Location Information

MEMPHIS, Tenn., Jan 16, 2002 (BUSINESS WIRE) -- On-the-go FedEx customers now have another wireless tool for their convenience with the addition of FedEx service information to Nextel Online(R), a wireless service from Nextel Communications Inc. Subscribers to the service can now efficiently view the shipping status of their packages with FedEx Express(R) and FedEx(R) Ground through a wireless Web site dedicated to mobile package-tracking and drop-off services.

These FedEx companies represent the only package and freight transportation company included on Nextel Online, which currently has a domestic base of approximately 1.7 million data subscribers, representing nearly 20 percent of Nextel's total domestic subscriber base. The advantage to Nextel Online subscribers is the ease and convenience they have in using FedEx tracking for their important packages, in addition to access to detailed information on FedEx drop-off locations--including driving directions.

"Nextel Online helps people deal with their hectic workday and lifestyle by bringing to their fingertips the services they need for business, shopping and entertainment," said Tim Dunne, vice president, business development at Nextel. "The addition of FedEx services to our wireless portal is a strong enhancement to the wireless business services available to our subscribers."

Instead of having to key in a URL to access FedEx, Nextel Online subscribers can simply navigate the wireless portal and in three easy clicks have quick access to the world's largest express transportation company, FedEx Express, and North America's second-largest small-package ground delivery service, FedEx Ground.

At the site, subscribers can monitor the shipping status of their FedEx packages and e-mail the tracking results to up to three e-mail addresses. The drop-off locator feature on the FedEx site allows users to find any of the more than 50,000 FedEx drop-off points.

"FedEx knows the importance of wireless solutions in today's fast-paced business environment," said David Payton, managing director of business development and alliances for FedEx. "The FedEx association with Nextel creates value by bringing together two respected names that are providing strong customer services through the messaging power of the Internet."
