"Holding long-term has a downside. I'll see where it takes me." It depends on what you are holding. Some stocks make a relatively slow and steady climb over the years. The move since 1982 has been generally supportive of buy and hold. But when prices spike absurdly it tends to really mess up the whole market and that mess can linger as it has unwanted side-effects. The contradiction in your investment style is that you look for companies with price-spike potential but take a buy-and-hold approach. Yahoo may indeed get back to $150 -- but it is likely to take at least 20 years, and probably will take mcuh longer than that. It is also qt least as likely that Yahoo will simply fade from the scene over the next few years. If you are going to play buy-and-hold don't expect anything more than that IMO.
