Mall watch - was at the Mall yesterday - BIG markdowns at Macy's, Bloomingdale's and Eddie Bauer, and not much business. Big inventories of leather jackets still hagning on racks, big piles of Merino sweaters (Yes I know he lost to Joe Montana, but they are still nice sweaters). Very few people at the cash registers. Unless this weekend and next week are big, retilers will exit this period wioth huge inventories. November retail sales were down -3.7 % More importantly, unit (volume ) isn't moving - and at the reduced prices, there will be a LOT LESS money comming in - maybe not enough to keep the doors open for some places, especially if they have debt. Will be thinking about more shorts/puts on retail early next week.
