It was an amazing journey.

Well done, Irwin.

To end up with 2.5% royalty's on domestic products.

50 million $100 phones in 5 years gives you a grand total of 125 million dollars in royalty's. They just spent 3X that amount in Brasil. That's about 2 cents a share over the next 5 years! They probably spent more on First Class plane tickets to China over the last 4 years!

I'm going to put on my Rally Cap, open a bottle of bubbly, and celebrate the fruition of Dr. J's China Dream.

Better stick with the "cheap stuff"!

Auntie Frank, your memory is getting slightly patchy.

There was already a Great Wall enterprise touting a CDMA1 system for many years running. Proved to be a flop and was now ditched for lack of interoperability with the other CDMA1 system.

This, pretty unthinkable really. When I was there –96 my Euro operator GSM roamed everywhere. Also back then the CDMA spin was that hey, we have the network now! Just watch us! Well I watched. You can´t escape a feeling of déjà vu, if you guys understand any Yuorupean.

But, bottle of bubbly is indeed in order. Wouldn´t be the only bubble in this saga. I recommend a hot steam bath also.

Another interesting aspect of this whole China deal is the speed that the CDMA system was put in place. That means a telecom company will be able to root out/smoke out the old (TDMA and GSM) and bring in the new CDMA system in no time.

Pretty soon the Chinese will be consulting Americans on wireless system.
