How many years have we witnessed the most powerful high-tech companies on this planet (other than Qualcomm) all fail miserably to come up with a single decent ASIC chip ?

MOT has one.. Remember when the Star Tac first came out? It was smaller and had better talk/standby time than anything Qualcomm was shipping. Of course, back then.. MOT was in all of that nasty litigation with QCOM over pre and post 1997 patents.. That's all been resolved. And now MOT is free to re-sell CDMA Asics.

NOK has their own also.. But, not as refined as QCOM's or MOT's.

As far as the rest of the licensees.. VLSI, DSPC, PrarieCom.. Not much ever came out of those companies.. Although VLSI/Phillips does claim to have one that is part of the Holley China deal.

Maybe we will be hearing from TXN someday soon?

But, it really doesn't seem to matter..The ASP's of QCOM ASIC's has fallen steadily over the last 4 years.. Even with "no competition".

Should be interesting to watch..
