Re <<This is your evidence? It is simply another unsubstantiated claim>>

Yes that is all the evidence I got, and yes it is not very convincing. But I never claimed to have any evidence.

I believe this conversation started by your claim of Intel gaining market share and AMD losing market share. I do not think that is true and you have not provide any info regarding AMD losing market share. All you have shown is that Intel's wireless division did better than AMD's flash division quarter over quarter.

Monica: This is your [Mani's] evidence? It is simply another unsubstantiated claim. I have read various transcripts of AMD's conference calls and I have seen no mention of AMD claiming any such thing as increased flash market share.

Not to get in the middle of your discussion with Mani, but I took the liberty of looking at JC's transcripts of AMD's 3Q01 CC and the 4Q01 mid quarter update.

From the 3Q CC: <Hector> Thank you Bob, The flash market continues to be weak in general, although all market segments appear to have stabilized the communications and networking segments are at the lowest level in two years. It is now believed that the?? in flash could be down as much as 30% this year over last year and our expectations are that AMD will be down around 25% for the year, thus outperforming the market. This quarter as previously guided our flash revenue was down 33% from the previous quarter.

And from the midQ update recently: Against last years forecast of 15 billion dollars for 2001, the flash market is expect to close this year at around 7.5 billion, down 29% for the year. Still faring a little bit better than the overall semiconductor industry. For the year, AMD is expected to fair a little bit better than the market, gaining slightly in market share while maintaining solid profitability.

As has been pointed out by others previously, there's nothing preventing both AMD and Intel to gain market share in flash at the same time since they don't have 100% of the market combined.
