Of course, but the size of the deficit determines the shortfall which much be financed by sales of assets or foreign borrowing. The current account deficit MUST be financed in one of these two ways -- either we borrow money from foreigners and incur future interest and principal payment obligations or we sell assets -- to the tune of $4 trillion per decade at the current burn rate.
