John, the newsgroups (alt.scooter) are of the consensus that the DITECH technology is far superior to the original on a performance basis. However, to get the most out of it it has to be upgraded by retuning and application of an exhaust kit. So, your dealer probably was either wrong or was talking about the stock scooter. I think the stock has performance limitations set by law. The major concern on the newsgroups was the scarcity of scooter mechanics here in the US, especially ones that can work on the DITECH. However, knowledgeable posters were raving about how easy it is to use the GAMEBOY interface to retune the machine. The USA will never be a great scooter market, but larger Aprilias are coming soon. Asian quantity is the key to extremely large scooter sales.

Next year is the answer to when OE will be profitable, but as everyone knows tomorrow never comes.

BTW, I think these were the royalty numbers - 2000 fiscal year, $1.5 mill and 2001, $3.5 mill. So we hope and I fully expect 2002 will be $8.2 mill and 2003 will be $19.1 mill. We'll see.
