Polycom (PLCM) jumped more than 7 percent after analyst Brian Alger at Pacific Growth Equities said his research indicates that the company will report "strong" fourth-quarter results and outlook for 2002. "Customer commentary has indicated orders for video conferencing solutions continue to attract strong demand, especially at the larger enterprises," Alger said in a note to clients. "Additionally, we believe total channel inventory has been reduced -- in terms of weeks -- and that the company is well positioned to benefit from strong market demand." He thinks there is potential for Polycom to top his earnings estimate of 14 cents a share and revenue forecast of $117 million. Both are in line with the average analyst estimate compiled by Thomson Financial/First Call.
