Bob Rudd, thanks for comments re. FRE, FNM. Not as clear-cut a purchase decision for me as I expected. I'll put these on back burner for now.

FWIW, it looks to me that I'm in positive territory (for now -g-) on all but one stock I purchased here after news announcements and/or discussion here that they were Mr. Buffett's (or his surrogate's) purchase. The only stock in this category that I have that I show losses on is Bell Industries (BL). (I'm hoping 2002 will be better for this stock.)

'Fannie Mae Enron,' an editorial in today's WSJ, is having and impact. Excerpt: "The more we've since looked at Fan and Fred the more they look like poorly run hedge funds: lots of leverage and snarkily hedged risk. The word Enron ring any bells?"
